The first Arabic language competition at Tel Aviv University

The first literary and linguistic knowledge competition was held on Tuesday 26
March at Tel Aviv University in which 21 Arab students from 11 different
schools from all over the country were participated in. This competition was
initiated by the Department of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University and
in cooperation with the Marketing Department and the Steering Committee
for the Integration of Arabs in the University.
Throughout the last months, the department's staff worked hard to organize
the competition to be in such a high level, the lecturer, Maysoon Chibi, Prof.
Jeries Naim Khoury, and Dr. Beata Shekhawatwish, Assistant Professor and
Director of Neo Media Amir O'Neely and Assistant Director Nariman Karum
accompanied by Head of Department Professor Uriya Shbeit and Marketing
Officer at the University Mr. Shadi Athamneh.
The jury was chaired by Professor Grace Naim Khoury. Beata Shekhatwish, the
student Amir Ijmil, and the divination of the competition was taken by the
student and lecturer in the section Omar al-Halabi.
Aseel Annabousi, a representative of the Yemma-Zimmer Agricultural High
School, won first place and received a cash prize of 3,000 NIS and 1,000 NIS For
her school library, and in second place, the student Azal Masarwa from Taibeh,
representing Atid Shamileh School, and won a prize of 1000 NIS, in the third
place was student Rana Wattad from Baqa Al-Gharbiya representing Al Qasimi
National High School.
Symbolic prizes were given to the rest of the students who participated in the
competition, which are special bags of the Department of Arab and Islamic
Studies at Tel Aviv University, and in each book bag presented by the Academy
of the Arabic Language headed by Professor Mahmoud Ghanayem.
Commenting from Dr. Yousef Mashharawi (Chairman of the Steering
Committee for Arab Support at Tel Aviv University): "Our Arabic language is the
cornerstone of the rest of the sciences and there is no doubt that the mother
tongue is one of the necessary rules for understanding and cognition and
building the rest of the fields of science of all kinds. We are proud and proud of
this rich and ancient language "Through this competition, our aim was to
promote and connect it in other areas of education and life in general."

Mr. Shadi Athamneh said: “This event is part of a number of events we are
doing throughout the year for Arab students to raise the level and reach of
education at the university. Fundamental to the Arab student in his academic
education and strengthening his personality. "
